90 day relationship reset home structure

In order for our dogs to take direction outside the house we need to instill structure inside the house.

A good plan to follow is a 1:2 ratio. One hour out of the crate and two hours in the crate. This can change but the ratio should stay the same. For example he could be out for 30 min then in the crate for one hour.

When not in the crate, playing with him, walking with him, or otherwise engaging with him, he should be on place with the leash on. This way if/when he breaks command you can easily get him back on.

You can have structured free roaming but that is supervised. We want to discourage unwanted behavior by blocking it from happening.

The Commands

Place - Go to designated spot (any elevated surface, a dog bed, cot, tree stump, bench, etc)

Sit - Sit where desired

Down - anywhere that is not an elevated surface

Here - The recall command

Verbal Markers

Yes - Release cue (they come to you to get the reward)

Good - Duration cue (you give the reward to your dog)

Nope - Stop doing that (this should be followed up with more guidance as necessary)

Get it - Go get the object (food, toy)

Play markers

I recommend playing with him at least once a day for 5-10 minutes

Ready - Ready the game

Yes - Engage with the toy

Get it- go get the toy

Out - Let go of the toy (pause)

Enough - Game is done (put toy away, put him on place)

Walks

Think about practicing your walk at least once a day for 20 - 30 min.

You could also do dedicated long line walks and dedicated structured walks. It is important to do both so he can get some fulfillment in there but also structure so we can get those city walks when needed.

Food

It would be recommended to work Doug for his meals whether in the house practicing his obedience commands or outside and on the walk. This builds value in you as the provider of a resource. This helps build focus and more reliability in the commands.
