Is Portland Dog-Friendly?
Portland has been named one of the best in the world for food, and it's also home to many beautiful dogs. Portland has become known as "Dog Town, USA" because of its dog-friendly environment. More than 100 restaurants and bars allow dogs inside and on outdoor patios (and we include coffee shops too). There are even hotels that allow pets—and this is just in Downtown PDX!
Dogs are not allowed into kitchens or bathrooms unless they're service animals (i.e., guide dogs). Dogs must be on leashes at all times while they're outside of designated areas such as restaurants' outdoor seating areas; if there aren't any designated areas nearby, then it's best to keep your doggo close by indoors where he can't escape or get into trouble with other people or pets in the area where he's being kept while not under owner supervision.
Both Southwest and Alaska Airlines allow pets on flights to and from Portland.
Southwest allows dogs as checked baggage but not as carry-on baggage.
Alaska Airlines also allows dogs in the cabin, but only if they're under 20 pounds (or half of an airline's maximum passenger limit).

Portland is an amazing place to live and an excellent place for dogs. The city has many parks with off-leash dog areas, which means you can take your furry friend out with you on the trails and into nature. Here are some of my favorite places to walk in Portland:
Forest Park
Forest Park is the largest urban park in the United States, and it's 5,000 acres. It's also one of Portland’s most popular dog-walking spots—and for a good reason! There are many trails through Forest Park that offer views of Mt. Hood and Mt. St Helens with their snowcapped peaks standing tall above them.

The Sprayberry Trail offers hikers incredible views from atop Lookout Mountain, which gives you a bird's eye view of Portland from above (and yes, you can see your dog too!). The trail winds around other high points in this area such as Vista Ridge Road where there are great vistas on both sides—perfect for sunsets or sunrise photos!
The Wildwood Trail follows along an old railroad right-of-way through a dense forest full of trees with interesting shapes like box elder buckeyes (which look like they were cut out by someone using an old saw). This walk leads back down into downtown where there are some beautiful bridges over streets beneath them!
Tryon Creek State Natural Area
Tryon Creek State Natural Area is a great place to walk your dog. It has a stream and lots of trails, including paved paths that lead to picnic areas, as well as unpaved trails that are more difficult for dogs to navigate. There are several different types of terrain in the park, so there's something for everyone—and if you're not sure what kind of terrain your pooch prefers, there are options available at each location.
Hoyt Arboretum
The Hoyt Arboretum is a Portland favorite. Located just outside of the city on the east side, it's easy to get here by car or bus, and offers beautiful views of Mt. Hood, with plenty of trails for dogs to run around on.
If you're looking for something more active than just walking your dog, there are some great hikes in the area that allow dogs on leashes but require them to be under voice command.
You'll also have access to restrooms, picnic tables, water fountains, and other amenities at no cost!
Mt. Tabor
Mt. Tabor is a favorite among people as it offers a large area more in the city. It’s a bit a climb but the views are spectacular. Located in SE portland it is very accessible from the I-84 and offers ample parking.
