Frequently Asked Questions.

Should I book “Board & Train” or “Private Lessons”?

Overall, both programs can be beneficial. One is a monetary investment, and the other is a time investment. I think for you, you’ll need to look at your lifestyle/schedule to see what fits best with you. We can cover a lot in a board and train while the private lessons usually move at a slower pace.

Will I be able to see my dog during Board & Train?

Yes, during the board & train, we will have you come in for weekly lessons to get hands-on with your dog. Likewise, we update Instagram with pictures and videos so you can see what they are learning.

How do you use remote collars?

Remote collars come in at the 3rd phase of the training process. After shaping behaviors with food, we add in the leash, then the remote collar comes in last after the dog clearly understands what we are asking them to do. Be sure to head to our Instagram page to see dogs in action wearing the remote collar.

Why do you use remote collars?

Being a dog owner before becoming a trainer, I learned firsthand the limitations of taking the leash off my dog. When distractions were present, I would have difficulty getting my dog back. Remote collars are the invisible leash we didn’t know we needed. With proper teaching, remote collars can give us reliability under any distractions.

What if I don’t get the results I want, do you offer a guarantee?

Unfortunately, because we are working with animals, there are no guarantees. There are too many variables involved in the success of your dog. For example, are the tools being used, is the homework being followed, and is everyone on the same page? However, we can guarantee that we will do our best to communicate with you and what your dog needs, as well as be there for you to answer any questions you may have.

Where will my dog be sleeping during Board & Train?

During their stay, your dog will be staying at our facility. We have staff on hand within walking distance of the facility. We also utilize the latest technology with video cameras to monitor them, smart smoke and fire alarms as well as a security system.

What tools do you use?

We are open to using any humane training tool to aid us and you in the training process. This includes but is not limited to muzzles, prong collars, remote collars, and slip leads.

Why don’t you teach a “stay” command?

We don't use stay as we find it is not necessary. Dogs like things to be simple, and our clients like things to be simple, so we use what we call "an implied stay." It's one less thing you have to remember.

My dog is nervous/fearful, should I still use a remote collar?

Yes! Remote collar training can be very beneficial for nervous and fearful dogs. Because remote collars can be very subtle, it allows us to be incredibly soft. Remote collar training can even build confidence in the dog because it actually gives them more freedom.

Why do you use prong collars?

We use prong collars because they allow clear and concise communication between you and your dog. They are very user-friendly, and it gives you a greater ability to communicate when you need it most.

Do you work with aggressive dogs?

Yes, we do work with aggressive dogs. The severity of the aggression will determine what program will work best for your dog, you, and our team.

Do you use food and praise during training?

Yes, everything is done with food and praise. We will also have you work your dog for their meals after the board and train to help bridge the gap between us and you.

If my dog is making progress quickly, would you end the program early?

No, if your dog is making quick progress, we will not end the program early. In the event that occurs, it will give us more time to proof your dog in more challenging situations. This will help out when your dog goes home because they will have been able to practice this more.
